José Gregorio León has been interviewed by journalist Mónica Pupo for Mirada Ecléctica magazine and by journalist Gerardo Elorriaga for the newspaper El Correo de Bilbao in relation to his photographic project Metamujer. In this series, the artist reflects on the cultural construction of desire and historically imposed standards of beauty. His gaze, situated within a male body, seeks to question and expose the conditioned desire that has traditionally defined what is considered beautiful within patriarchal frameworks.
Using the figure of Barbie—long conceived as an object of desire—León fragments her representation and strips her of roles, costumes, and utilitarian narratives often used to reinforce stereotypes. Through this process, he attempts to move the image away from the realm of fetishization and toward a space of visual critique and contemporary reflection.
